Oral Health and Pregnancy project moves forward thanks to EFP national societies

Eighteen EFP-affiliated national societies of periodontology are taking the Oral Health and Pregnancy project into its second stage by preparing their own outreach activities.

Plans include courses, seminars, television interviews, and working with hospitals and gynaecologists, as well as publishing material on websites and social media and distributing it via email. Some activities are being planned to coincide with European Gum Health Day on May 12.

Oral Health and Pregnancy, a project produced by the EFP in partnership with Oral-B, promotes women’s oral health during pregnancy through guidelines for patients and healthcare professionals.

These brochures, and the 36-page scientific report on which they were based, were put together by periodontology professor Nicola West, based on the findings of Perio Workshop 2016, organised by the EFP and the European Organisation for Caries Research (ORCA).

In an interview, Prof West explains how her work was “a question of taking all these findings and focusing them in ways suitable for different audiences”.
