Spanish Society of Perio Annual meeting- Report from M Reners
I was invited by the Spanish society of Periodonlogy and Dental implants at the 47th meeting in Granada, the 23rd to the 25th of May 2013. I received a very warm welcome from the organising committee. SEPA is a big society and the congress attracted about 1200 people, it was held together with the hygienist"s society. EFP grows- Lithuania and Ukraine have joined the EFP
During last EFP General Assembly in Jerusalem, the Lithuanian Association of Periodontology and the Ukrainian Society of Periodontists presented their application to become Associate members. Both were welcome The Polish Society of Perio has become Full members EFP has now 28 national societies.

Huge Perio awareness campaign kicks off
National Periodontology Societies are to be at the heart of a major international campaign in 2013 to boost awareness into the strong links between oral and systemic diseases. Now under way, the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) Outreach Campaign targets 340,000 dentists and hygienists across the continent and features this web site, a cutting-edge documentary, and a Manifesto amongst its many tools. A media team set up especially for this project has been hard at work organising resources to reach out to the dental and medical community and beyond, to reach institutions and regulating bodies and get the message across to opinion leaders through general news media and the public. The message? Following November's key Workshop meeting of European and US dental scientists in Segovia, Spain, the decision was made to create international awareness of how oral diseases are interrelated with conditions affecting other parts of the body, many of them as life-threatening as diabetes and cardiovascular disease, and how periodontal check-ups and treatment can enhance our general health. A 7-minute documentary film, Perio and General Health: The Vital Connections will be presented in Jerusalem on March 15 at the General Assembly of the EFP. On the same date, the EFP will use this web site to launch a Manifesto. This first-ever mission statement on periodontology will set out aims for periodontal care and global awareness of the importance of gum care. And the 26 National Periodontology Societies that make up the EFP are allurged to co-operate in the campaign by running their own activities to get across the Workshop conclusions and messages. Each Society will be presented with useful guidelines and promotional material for building up press contacts - available to download from this site - along with dossiers and information in English to supply to media organs or to translate into national languages and disseminate. National Societies will have their own niche on this very web site from which they can co-ordinate their news and campaign activities. They will be kept up-to-date with all international and European level news of this Colgate-backed awareness push...so watch this space!

Gathering of the Board members and Ambassadors of the EFP Societies Vienna- 9 June 2012 at Modern Times Café (Messe Wien) During EuroPerio7 the board members and ambassadors of the 26 national societies that form the EFP met in Vienna. Around 170 delegates met together for a drink after the scientific sessions Stefan Renvert, EFP Secretary General together with Mayumi Kaneda from Sunstar warmly welcomed the delegates.
