EFP toolkit for clinicians on new classification is now available for use
One of the steps in the "decision tree" for staging and grading periodontitis, part of the New Classification toolkit
The EFP toolkit for periodontists and other dental professionals to help them implement the new classification of periodontal and peri-implant diseases has now been formally launched and materials can be viewed and downloaded from a dedicated website.
The toolkit – available at perioclassification.efp.org – comprises five guidance notes and four expert presentations, with infographics and videos to be added later. Also available are the introduction and consensus reports of the 2017 World Workshop on the Classification of Periodontal and Peri-implant Diseases and Conditions, which form the basis of the material in the toolkit.
At the same time as launching the website, the EFP is making the English-language materials available to its 37 affiliated societies so that they can print and distribute them, as well as translate them. The toolkit was presented at the EFP general assembly in Bern, Switzerland, on March 30.
Both the guidance notes and the presentations (provided in video form on the website but also available to the national societies as PowerPoint slides) were created by the EFP’s professional communications team, with the expert content provided by the four EFP co-chairs of the World Workshop – Mariano Sanz, Iain Chapple, Søren Jepsen, and Tord Berglundh – and Journal of Clinical Periodontology editor Maurizio Tonetti.
The five guidance notes cover:
The four presentations, written by the same authors, cover: Periodontal health and gingival diseases and conditions; periodontitis; systemic and other periodontal conditions; peri-implant health, peri-implant mucositis, and peri-implantitis.
The World Workshop on the Classification of Periodontal and Peri-Implant Diseases and Conditions took place in Chicago in November 2017 and the new classification was formally presented for the first time at EuroPerio9 on June 22.
