EuroPerio9 committee offers clear guide on how to submit abstracts
A presentation in the poster lounge at EuroPerio8
Presentations of scientific research and clinical reports are a key part of the programme at the EFP’s EuroPerio congresses.
The submission of abstracts for both kinds of presentation at EuroPerio9 – which takes place in Amsterdam in June 2018 – opened on Sept 25, and the EuroPerio9 organising committee has published a detailed guide on how to submit abstracts.
In terms of subject matter, the committee has issued a list of suitable topics. Within periodontology, the topics are:
- aetiology and pathogenesis,
- diagnosis and risk factors,
- periodontal therapy,
- antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory therapies,
- periodontal regeneration,
- periodontal medicine,
- periodontal plastic surgery.
Within implant dentistry, the approved subjects are:
- basic implant dentistry,
- diagnosis and risk factors in implant therapy,
- implant therapy (surgical and restorative protocols),
- bone-regeneration therapies,
- peri-implant diseases.
People who submit abstracts should choose between either a research presentation or a clinical-report presentation.
The structure of the abstract varies according to the type of presentation. Thus, for research presentations, the structure should be: Background and aim, methods, results, conclusions. Abstracts should include some data from the results.
In contrast, a clinical-report presentation should describe novel clinical techniques, case reports, or case series. It should contain a short statement about the background, followed by description of the clinical procedure and a description of the outcomes.
Abstracts, which should be based on previously unpublished data, should be of no more than 300 words and one table per abstract is allowed (although no figures or videos can be uploaded in the abstract submission process).
Submitters can indicate whether they prefer an oral presentation or poster presentation – although the final decision about this will be taken by the EuroPerio9 scientific committee.
Abstracts, which must be written in English, will be approved according to their scientific or clinical merit. Full guidelines on abstract submissions are available at the Abstracts section of the EuroPerio9 website, from which online submissions can be made.
The deadline for submissions is Tuesday, November 28. Those whose applications are successful will be notified by February 28, 2018 and abstract presenters will need to register for EuroPerio9 by March 14.
