A multidisciplinary dental meeting recently took place in St Petersburg (Russia), which included a strong level of participation from the EFP-affiliated Russian Society of Periodontology.
Specially invited by the society, Filippo Graziani – elected member of the EFP executive committee and associate professor of periodontology at the University of Pisa – presented a paper on “Systemic effects of periodontal therapy."
His presentation emphasised the important and measurable effects of periodontal treatment on indicators of systemic diseases and the effect of treatment on overall well-being.
He also presented the outcomes of the Perio-Diabetes Workshop (held by the EFP and the International Diabetes Federation in February this year) and invited the audience to sign the EFP Manifesto on periodontal and general health.
More than 800 people attended the conference, which explored “actual problems in dentistry” and “topical issues in dentistry: some questions of aesthetics in periodontology and implantology.”
Opening the conference, Prof Liudmila Y. Orekhova, president of the Russian Society of Periodontology, noted the importance of such events for the formation of a holistic view among dental specialists, thanks to the variety of presented topics that covered all major areas of modern dentistry.
The conference took place within the tenth edition of the Dental-Expo St Petersburg exhibition, on October 24 and 25.
Conference organisers included the Dental Association of Russia, the Dental Association of St. Petersburg, the department of therapeutic dentistry at the First Pavlov State Medical University of St Petersburg, the Russian Society of Periodontology, the PAKS periodontal centre, and the exhibition organizer PRIMEEXPO.
