Russian perio society takes message about diabetes to schools
The Russian Perio Society organised various activities for World Diabetes Day
On November 14, World Diabetes Day, members of the Russian Society of Periodontology visited schools and kindergartens in St Petersburg and other cities to explain the links between periodontal disease and diabetes.
The action coincided with the launch of the EFP’s Perio & Diabetes project, which provides a wealth of material explaining the relationship between these two diseases and the role of prevention, diagnoses, treatment, and management.
Members of the Russian Society of Periodontology and dental students from the First Pavlov State Medical University of St Petersburg organised a Day of Dental Health with events held in schools, kindergartens, and at the university’s Scientific Research Department of Dentistry, and at the City Periodontology Centre (“PAKS”).
Children were instructed in the basics of oral hygiene and healthy nutrition, and were able to practise brushing their teeth on models.
Adults were shown the importance of adhering to the principles of healthy nutrition and oral hygiene as well as the need for regular dental check-ups and monitoring of blood-sugar levels.
Similar activities were organised in other cities across Russia, including an event at the Saratov State Medical University in Saratov.
