Russian perio society holds one-day conference and highlights link between periodontitis and systemic diseases
Day of Periodontology in Moscow
The Russian Society of Periodontology held a Day of Periodontology in Moscow on June 17 in which messages related to the EFP’s May 12 European Day of Periodontology were shared.
The one-day event, held at the Central Institute of Scientific Research in Dentistry in Moscow, highlighted the links between periodontitis and systemic diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
It was organised by Alexander Grudyanov, president of the Russian Society of Periodontology. Speakers included some of Russia’s leading perio scientists such as Prof Lydia Dimitrieva, who spoke about errors in the treatment of patients with periodontal disease, and Prof Tamara Modina, who addressed the topic of the co-morbidity of periodontal and oral mucosa diseases.
There were also presentations by some of the Institute’s young scientists. Maria Makeeva gave a presentation about endodontal-periodontal lesion as a source of chronic infection, while Tamara Avraamova and Alan Hatagov examined the importance of periodontitis as a risk factor for the cardiovascular system.
The Russian perio society is one of the EFP’s five associate members, joining in 2014.
