Turkish perio society holds congress with international speakers
Turkish Society of Periodontology congress
The Turkish Society of Periodontology held its 47th international scientific congress and its 26th scientific symposium in Istanbul on November 17 and 18.
The opening lecture was given by neurologist Turker Sahiner, who discussed the links between periodontal disease and Alzheimer’s Disease.
The event, which took place at the Lutfi Kırdar Congress Centre, featured speakers from Finland, Israel, and Italy as well as from Turkey.
Speakers included: Tali Chackartchi (Israel), who spoke about guided implant surgery; Ates Parlar (Turkey), who addressed the aesthetic and functional aspects of managing soft-tissue problems around implants; and Erhan Comlekogul (Turkey), whose presentation covered the relationship between prosthetic restorations and peri-implantitis.
Other speakers included: Mauro Merli (Italy), whose lecture covered the reconstruction of challenging bone defects in the aesthetic zone; Ilker Cabeci (Turkey), who addressed the topic of radiographic and cross-anatomic evaluation on clinical applications through cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT); and Eija Könönen (Finland), who discussed biofilms in periodontal and peri-implant diseases in diabetics, exploring approaches to diagnoses and treatment.
The organising committee and the meeting was chaired by Seyhan Gucum and the scientific committee was formed of Basak Dogan (chair), Ali Cekici, Duygu Yaman, and Serhat Aslan.
About 300 periodontists participated in the meeting, which Bahar Eren Kuru, EFP delegate of the Turkish Society of Periodontology, described as “a fruitful meeting, with all its international speakers, the scientific committee, free papers, and posters which provided participants with up-to-date messages about the periodontal and peri-implant areas under discussion.”
