Ukranian perio society hosts interdisciplinary symposium
Ukranian perio society president Galina Biloklytska addressing the symposium
The Ukrainian Society of Periodontists held an interdisciplinary symposium in Kyiv on February 9 which brought together professionals from three specialities: periodontology, endodontics, and restorative dentistry.
The event, “Perio, Endo, Resto: Science, Practice, Experience”, was attended by 155 participants, including members of the society, dental specialists from other dental societies, and students.
The main focus was on complex interdisciplinary treatment for perio patients, and the programme was drawn up to show the scientific research and to provide guidelines for practical implementation in the clinical treatment of perio patients.
Galina Biloklytska, president of the Ukranian perio society, dedicated her presentation to the interdisciplinary aspects of rehabilitation and the effective treatment of perio patients.
She addressed aspects of antibiotic therapy and antiseptics, probiotics, and also talked about the connection between periodontal diseases and systemic diseases. Other topics addressed in her presentation included regenerative techniques such as the use of enamel matrix proteins during flap operations, PRP-therapy, and lasers.
The perio section of the programme considered topics including the role and efficiency of different ultrasonic devices, splinting techniques, the use of nanosilver, and the selective prescription of medications during the maintenance phase of periodontal treatment.
The section on endodontics explored diagnostics, the role of biofilm in endo-perio pathologies, the role of antiseptics, microbial resistance, and the quality of endodontic treatment and its long-term results in periodontal cases. There were also practical demonstrations and recommendations for performing root-canal work.
The section on restorative dentistry focused on the latest trends and products for adhesion and restoration, including new composites.
Prof Biloklytska and EFP delegate Julia Braun also addressed the symposium – which was sponsored by Dentsply, Sirona, and Lacalut – to provide information about next year’s EuroPerio9 congress in Amsterdam.
The Ukrainian Society of Periodontists is now planning further meetings to explain the importance of periodontal treatment in everyday dental practice and to enhance the efficiency of complex treatments and prevention in periodontal patients.
