First European Workshop on Periodontal Education
The EFP are leaders in periodontal education in Europe and influential globally. We strive to deliver an educational vision in periodontology and implantology, to set guidelines, drive educational initiatives and advance knowledge and understanding in periodontal education. To this end the first European Workshop in Periodontal Education was held in Segovia Spain in November 2009. Prof Mariano Sanz chaired the organising commitee and the workshop was generously supported by EFP Partners DENTAID. We were joined by our learned colleagues from the Association of Dental Education in Europe (ADEE) between the 18th and 21st November. This workshop addressed the following key issues in periodontal education:
- Periodontal health in Europe: future trends based on treatment needs and the provision of periodontal services.
- Scope, competences, learning outcomes and methods of periodontal education within the undergraduate dental curriculum.
- Postgraduate periodontal education. Scope, competences, proficiencies and learning outcomes.
- Innovative educational methods and technologies applicable to continuing professional development in periodontology.
As an EFP member, the executive committee are pleased to offer you free access to these influential papers, which appear in the May 2010 supplement to the European Journal of Dental Education, guest edited by Prof Iain Chapple. Please disseminate these important findings to the key stakeholders in your countries. We hope you find the documents helpful.
