Filippo Graziani is a full professor of periodontology at the University of Pisa (Italy), an honorary professor at the University of Hong Kong, and a visiting professor in periodontology at University College London (UK).

He graduated (cum laude) as a doctor in dentistry in 1998 at the University of Pisa and was awarded his PhD in oral and maxillofacial surgery in 2001 by the University of Naples (Italy). He obtained his speciality in periodontology (distinction) from the Eastman Dental Institute at University College London in 2004. Further qualifications include a master’s degree in clinical research (University of Pisa) and a speciality in oral surgery.

His research activities are focused on periodontal surgical treatment and periodontal medicine. He is the author of more than 80 articles in international journals, a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Clinical Periodontology, associate editor of Minerva Stomatologica, and a reviewer for numerous scientific journals.

He is the co-ordinator of the Periodontology, Halitosis, and Periodontal Medicine unit of the University Hospital of Pisa, and the founder of the Centre of Dental Hygiene and Periodontology, also in Pisa, where he runs his private practice in periodontology.

Prof Graziani received the second prize for graduate research from the European Federation of Periodontology (2005), the Robinson Award from the American Academy of Periodontology (2013), the Jaccard Prize for Clinical Research from the European Federation of Periodontology (2015), and the HM Goldman Prize from the Italian Society of Periodontology (2017). 

He was president of the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) from 2019-2020 and is chair of its European projects committee. He was also the co-ordinator of European Gum Health Day 2017.
