EFP Perio Session nº 9 "The role of Diet in preventing and treating periodontal diseases"

Diet is considered to be the main driver of premature death and non-communicable diseases. Studies in the last decades showed that diet also profoundly influences periodontal inflammation in – even in the presence of plaque. The webinar presents the underlying mechanisms and possibilities for periodontal therapy.

The aim is to rank behavioral risk factors in their contribution to non-communicable diseases and to name the most relevant dietary components with regard to pro-inflammatory (simple processed carbohydrates, industrial meat) and anti-inflammatory processes (fibres, Omega-3 fatty acids, micronutrients, phytochemicals).
