The three finalists in Perio Contest 2018
The three finalists in Perio Contest 2018, a competition for the best single-case report in periodontology, have been chosen via online voting.
The three contenders – from Taiwan, USA/Australia, and Italy – will each present their case at a special session on the final day of EuroPerio9 (Saturday, June 23).
The final winner will be chosen through a composite score obtained from a live poll carried out at the session and input from the evaluation committee, which had previously selected the 10 best cases for the online poll.
A total of 137 cases from 50 different countries had been presented in the competition, which was organised the EFP and the EuroPerio9 organising committee in collaboration with Zerodonto, an Italian dentistry blog
The three cases with most votes in the online poll were:
- Case 93: Comprehensive management of severe periodontitis patient, by Teresa Chanting Sun (Taiwan), with 943 votes;
- Case 113: Aesthetic reconstruction of traumatised pre-maxilla, by Michi Katafuchi (USA) and Armand Putra (Australia), with 368 votes;
- Case 77: Root-coverage procedures in a young female, by Claudio Di Gioia (Italy), with 352 votes.
The three finalists all receive free registration for EuroPerio9 and a travel grant, while the winner will receive a 3D printer provided by Straumann. Almost 2,500 votes were cast via the Zerodonto website and Facebook page.
The evaluation committee comprised Søren Jepsen, EuroPerio9 scientific chair, and Maurizio Tonetti, editor of the Journal of Clinical Periodontology, together with Diego Velasquez, Pierpaolo Cortellini, Rony Jung, Tomohiro Ishikawa, and Otto Zuhr.
