Paula Matesanz is an associate professor of periodontology at the Complutense University of Madrid (Spain). She was an assistant professor from 2014 to 2017, becoming an associate professor in 2017. Since 2013, she has been a board member of the Spanish Society of Periodontology and Dental Implants (SEPA), of which she is currently secretary general.

She received her dental degree from the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) in 2004 and her master´s degree in periodontology from the same university in 2009, when she also received certification in periodontology from the EFP. She received a predoctoral grant from the Spanish Ministry of Science and was awarded her PhD in dentistry (cum laude) by the UCM in 2013.

Paula Matesanz received the second prize for graduate research from the EFP in 2014 and the Fonseca Prize, from SEPA, in the same year.

Dr Matesanz has published in the field of periodontology and dental implants. She belongs to the UCM research group Aetiology and Treatment of Periodontitis, co-directed by professors Mariano Sanz and David Herrera, and is involved in several clinical and basic-science research projects.
