Virginie Monnet-Corti is professor and head of the department of Periodontology at the Aix-Marseille University. in southern France, as well as director of its two post-graduate programmes, one devoted to the theory and practice of periodontology, and the latter to periodontal plastic surgery. She is also responsible for the residency in dentistry and of all three specialised study diplomas taught by the School of Dental Medicine at Aix-Marseille University.

Additionally, Prof Monnet-Corti is a member of the mixed research team unit “Méditerranée Infection”, and head of the University Hospital Service of Periodontology and the public assistance hospitals of Marseille.

Her clinical and research interests focus on the field of periodontology, notably on gingival aesthetics, periodontal plastic surgery, and the relationship that periodontology has with implantology, with orthodontics, and with the periodontal microbiota. She leads, with other experts, a group of clinical research called Parodontia.

Prof Monnet-Corti  lectures nationally and internationally and is the author of scientific articles, book chapters and a book on periodontal plastic surgery. Also, she is the editor-in-chief of a French-language magazine called "Parodontologie et implantologie orale : un nouveau regard" (in English, “Periodontology and Oral Implantology:. a new look”).

Past-president of the French perio society (2013-18), she was the scientific chair of its 2023 annual national congress, under the motto “No implantology without periodontology”.

At  EFP level, Prof Monnet-Corti is the deputy of the EFP’s Project committee. She recently served as scientific chair of the EFP conference Perio Master Clinic 2023 held in Antwerp, Belgium in February 2023 on “Perio-ortho synergy. She is also chair of the upcoming International Perio Master Clinic 2024 event, to be held on the same topic in Singapore in January 2024.
