Baku, Azerbaijan

On 6 and 7 March 2026, the EFP will bring its renowned Perio Master Clinic to Baku, Azerbaijan, for the very first time. With the theme The Perio-Restorative Interplay, this event is the place to be for dental professionals eager to explore the latest evidence-based clinical techniques in periodontology, implantology, and restorative dentistry.

To give you a taste of the city, we asked Professor Cavid Ahmedbeyli, Congress Chair of Perio Master Clinic 2026, to share why Baku is the perfect destination for this unique event.

Question: What do you love best about Baku?

Cavid Ahmedbeyli: Baku is a fascinating blend of East and West: ancient history meets modern architecture. The Old City, with its narrow alleys, caravanserais and the Maiden Tower, sits just next to the modern Flame Towers and the Caspian Sea promenade. This contrast is what I love most, you feel the history and the future side by side.

Q: Where do you usually take visiting colleagues?

CA: I always start with a walk in the Old City, then we visit the Heydar Aliyev Centre - Zaha Hadid’s architectural masterpiece - followed by a stroll along the Caspian Sea Boulevard. If time allows, Gobustan National Park with its rock carvings and mud volcanoes just outside Baku is worth a visit.

Q: Do you have any hidden gems to recommend?

CA: Definitely! The Carpet Museum, shaped like a rolled-up carpet, surprises many visitors. For something truly unique, the Fire Temple (Ateshgah) and the natural “burning mountain”, Yanar Dağ, are unforgettable.

Q: Any local customs delegates should know?

CA: Hospitality is at the heart of Azerbaijani culture. You will always be welcomed with tea: it’s polite to accept at least one cup. People also value polite greetings and dressing smartly for professional and social occasions.

Q: What should delegates pack for March?

CA: Early March is cool and breezy, with temperatures around 12–17°C. A warm jacket and scarf are advisable, because of the Caspian winds. Comfortable shoes for walking in the Old City are ideal.

Q: What local specialties should visitors try or take home?

CA: Local dishes such as plov, dolma, qutab, and kebabs are essentials to try. For something sweet, baklava or shekerbura are perfect souvenirs. And if you’re looking for gifts, Azerbaijani carpets, silk scarves, and pomegranate products are wonderful options.

Q: How easy is it to get around?

Baku is very accessible. The city centre is walkable, taxis are affordable (apps like Bolt are widely used), and the metro is clean and efficient. Most trips within the city cost around 5–10 euros.

Bringing together world-class clinical expertise and the warm hospitality of Azerbaijan, Perio Master Clinic 2026 will be more than a scientific event, it will be a unique experience in a region where Europe and Asia meet, and where you can combine professional growth with unforgettable cultural discovery.
