Perio Workshop

This year, Perio Workshop 2023 takes place on 5-8 November and brings together around 75 leading international experts from 22 countries, including EFP specialisists and representatives from ADEE (Association for Dental Education in Europe) and IADH (International Association for Disability and Oral Health) to reach an evidence-based consensus on education on periodontology.

Sponsored by Dentaid, Perio Workshop 2023 will be chaired by David Herrera and co-chaired by Mariano Sanz. Workshop participants will work in four working groups:
- Working group 1, on undergraduate perio education, chaired by Søren Jepsen and Mariano Sanz.
- Working group 2, on postgraduate/specialist perio education, chaired by Tord Berglundh and Maurizio Tonetti.
- Working group 3, on training and continuing professional development, chaired by Moritz Kebschull and Anton Sculean, together with Panos Papapanou.
- Working group 4, on education methods, chaired by David Herrera and Iain Chapple.

Perio Workshop is an annual scientific meeting of first-level experts in periodontal science, aimed at encouraging the exchange and examination of research-based knowledge through discussion and consensus on issues of major relevance to periodontology and dentistry.

The outcomes of each edition of Perio Workshop (also known as European Workshop on Periodontology) are published in special open-access monographic supplements of the JCP (or Journal of Clinical Periodontology). The conclusions of Perio Workshop 2023 will be published by spring 2024.

Held since 1993, Perio Workshop was first chaired by Niklaus Lang until 2008, then by Mariano Sanz from 2009 to 2020, and now by David Herrera since 2021. From 1993 to 2008 the workshops were held in Ittingen, Switzerland. Since 2009, they are held in La Granja de San Ildefonso, Spain. The editions of 2012 and 2017 were jointly organised by the EFP and the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP). The edition scheduled for 2020 was postponed one year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
