Perio Workshop 2018, organised by the EFP in partnership with the Osteology Foundation, will focus on the topic of bone regeneration.

The workshop, which involves 75 invited academics and researchers in periodontology and oral surgery, has three specific objectives:

  • To describe the biology of bone regeneration and the regenerative technologies used in bone-regenerative interventions in the oral cavity;
  • To evaluate the evidence on the efficacy of interventions aimed at treating extraction sockets;
  • To evaluate the evidence on the efficacy of interventions aimed at regenerating alveolar-ridge defects.

The workshop will be chaired by Prof Mariano Sanz (EFP) and Prof Christer Dahlin (Osteology Foundation) and participants will be organised into four working groups. Working group 1 (co-chairs Tord Berglundh and William Giannoble) will cover biological factors involved in alveolar bone regeneration; Working group 2 (Mariano Sanz and Christer Dalhin) will explore biomaterials and regenerative technologies; Working group 3 (Maurizio Tonetti and Ronald Jung) will tackle treatment of the extraction sockets; and Working group 4 (Frank Schwarz and Søren Jepsen) will consider the regeneration of alveolar-ridge defects.

Sponsored by Geistlich Pharma, Perio Workshop 2018 will take place from November 11 to 14, 2016 in La Granja de San Ildefonso, near Segovia in Spain, which has been the venue of recent editions of the EFP’s Perio Workshop.

The workshop’s consensus papers and working documents will later be published in a special open-access supplement of the EFP’s Journal of Clinical Periodontology.
