Perio Tbilisi 2025: celebrating 10 years of GeoPerio
Categories:Events, National Activities

Perio Tbilisi 2025 took place on 28 - 29 November, bringing internationally recognised experts to Georgia and marking the 10th anniversary of the Georgian Association of Periodontology (GeoPerio). The event began with a full day of hands-on masterclasses, followed by a scientific congress focused on clinical periodontology and interdisciplinary care. Around 150 participants attended, including clinicians, academics, students, and representatives from dental companies, reflecting the growing demand for advanced periodontal education in Georgia and the country’s increasing engagement with the wider dental community.
This year’s congress welcomed a group of distinguished specialists well known in global periodontology. Their participation offered valuable learning opportunities and was an important milestone for the local professional community. Among the keynote guests were Professors Massimo De Sanctis and Sofia Aroca whose clinical expertise and international standing were highly appreciated by attendees.
Doctor Tatia Kochladze, congress chair said: "Perio Tbilisi has become more than a scientific meeting. It serves as a gateway connecting Georgian clinicians with leading experts in periodontology. A highlight of Perio Tbilisi 2025 was the presence of Professor Spyros Vassilopoulos, EFP president. His attendance affirmed the congress’s role as a meeting of both national and international relevance. Our aim is to provide delegates with direct access to current knowledge and to support excellence in clinical practice. Celebrating GeoPerio’s 10th anniversary with such a distinguished faculty shows that Georgia is now an active part of the global periodontal community."
The scientific programme emphasised an interdisciplinary approach. Rather than focusing solely on surgical procedures, the sessions explored how periodontology collaborates with other dental specialties. Particular attention was given to cooperation with orthodontics and prosthetic dentistry, demonstrating that successful outcomes often rely on coordinated planning among specialists to achieve stable functional and aesthetic results.

The congress featured contributions from respected clinicians and academics from across Europe, including Professor Klaus Gotfredsen, and Doctors Nuno Sousa Dias, Luciano Pitzurra and Aušra Levickienė. Their lectures covered clinical experience, research updates, and treatment strategies that supported participants in expanding their knowledge and enhancing clinical decision-making.
Perio Tbilisi 2025 also showcased Georgian hospitality. Alongside the scientific sessions, the event included an industry exhibition, gala dinner, and cultural programme for visiting speakers. International guests were able to experience Georgian traditions, cuisine, and history while developing professional connections. This combination of education and cultural exchange strengthened the identity of Perio Tbilisi as a distinctive event in the region.
"Perio Tbilisi 2025 was organised with professionalism and strong participation from international experts," highlighted Doctor Ana Tavartkiladze, president of GeoPerio. "I am grateful for the contributions of all attendees, whose engagement ensured the scientific quality and smooth delivery of the congress. We look forward to continuing our shared efforts to advance periodontal science and improve standards of care for our patients."
