International Perio Master Clinic 2027 will build bridges between Europe and Latin America

28 October 2026

The EFP International Perio Master Clinic 2027, which takes place on April 30 and May 1 next year in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, represents an important opportunity to strengthen scientific collaboration between Europe and Latin America. Sergio Kahn, chair of the event and president of the Brazilian Society of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry (SOBRAPI), shares his vision of the congress and its significance for the international periodontal community.

The advancement of periodontology has always been closely connected to scientific collaboration, the exchange of knowledge, and the development of strong relationships between clinicians, researchers, and professional societies around the world.

Today, as dentistry becomes increasingly interdisciplinary and technologically advanced, international co-operation plays an even more important role in translating scientific evidence into better clinical decisions and improved patient care.

Against this background, bringing the EFP International Perio Master Clinic  to Rio de Janeiro in 2027 represents much more than organizing an outstanding scientific event. It reflects a shared commitment to expanding educational opportunities, strengthening professional relationships, and building lasting connections between Europe, Brazil, and the wider Latin American periodontal community.

The EFP has established itself as a global reference in periodontal science, education, and clinical practice. Its commitment to scientific excellence and evidence-based dentistry has contributed significantly to the development of our speciality worldwide.

Hosting International Perio Master Clinic 2027 in Brazil provides an exceptional opportunity to bring this expertise closer to Latin American clinicians while encouraging a valuable exchange of knowledge, experiences, and perspectives.

The collaboration between the EFP and SOBRAPI reflects a common vision: advancing periodontology through high-quality education, international partnerships, and greater access to scientific knowledge.

For SOBRAPI, an international associate member of the EFP since 2019, this congress represents an important milestone in its commitment to strengthening its international presence and promoting closer scientific integration between Brazilian professionals and the global periodontal community.

Interdisciplinary thinking

Under the scientific leadership of Professor Mariano Sanz, the congress will address one of the most important challenges in contemporary dentistry: the relationship between periodontology and restorative dentistry (hence the event’s title, The Perio-Restorative Interplay).

Successful treatment of complex clinical situations increasingly depends on the integration of periodontal biology, surgical expertise, restorative principles, and modern technologies.

The scientific programme brings together internationally recognized experts to share their knowledge, clinical experience, and treatment strategies, emphasizing practical applications and evidence-based decision-making.

Beyond presenting advanced techniques, International Perio Master Clinic 2027 aims to encourage critical thinking, interdisciplinary dialogue, and a deeper understanding of the biological principles that guide predictable and long-lasting treatment outcomes.

Beyond the congress

The true impact of an international scientific meeting should extend far beyond its closing session.

Our ambition is that International Perio Master Clinic 2027 will contribute to stronger institutional partnerships, new educational initiatives, and continued scientific exchange between periodontal communities across continents.

As conference chair and president of SOBRAPI, I feel particularly honoured to contribute to this initiative alongside the EFP and Professor Sanz.

I strongly believe that scientific progress becomes even more meaningful when knowledge is shared, opportunities are expanded, and professional communities work together toward common goals.

In April 2027, Rio de Janeiro will not simply host an international periodontal congress. It will become a meeting point for science, clinical excellence, and lasting connections between continents. We look forward to welcoming the international periodontal community to Rio de Janeiro.

Making a difference in everyday practice

On April 30 and May 1 next year, Rio de Janeiro will become the world capital of periodontology, adds Ricardo Fischer, co-chair of International Perio Master Clinic 2027. This will be a congress that gets straight to the point: lots of clinical content, real cases, high-level discussion, and a focus on what makes a difference in everyday practice.

This is the fourth EFP master clinic to be held outside of Europe, following Hong Kong (2019), Mexico (2023), and Singapore (2024).

The topic of International Perio Master Clinic 2027, “The Perio-Restorative Interplay”, speaks to just about everyone: periodontists, implantologists, prosthodontists, restorative dentists, and general practitioners. After all, successful restorative treatment depends on a healthy periodontal foundation, and vice versa. Understanding this interaction is key to planning cases with greater predictability and longer-lasting results.

The scientific programme, co-ordinated by Mariano Sanz, one of the most respected names in international periodontology, features 16 international and 12 Brazilian speakers, carefully selected to offer the best scientific knowledge.

Bringing this event to Brazil brings Europe and Latin America closer together, opening the door to sharing experiences, building new partnerships, and plenty of networking.

Finally, one should not forget the setting. Cutting-edge science during the day and all of Rio de Janeiro to enjoy the rest of the time.
