Bringing Gum Health Day to the public in Baku
Categories:Events, Institutional, Gum Health Day

A public awareness initiative linked to Gum Health Day brought the message of prevention and early diagnosis to Baku residents on 5 March, as part of activities surrounding Perio Master Clinic 2026 in Azerbaijan.
Held in front of the convention centre ahead of the congress, the activation was organized with the support of the European Federation of Periodontology and the Azerbaijani Society of Periodontology. Dental professionals set up a dedicated space where members of the public could receive free dental check-ups and learn more about the importance of maintaining healthy gums.
Throughout the event, dentists and oral health professionals spoke with passers-by about the signs of periodontal disease, the role of prevention, and the benefits of early detection. More than 60 people from the local community took the opportunity to receive an examination and discuss their oral health with specialists.

According to Professor Cavid Ahmedbeyli, president of the Azerbaijani Society of Periodontology, hosting the activation was a point of pride for the local professional community: “We are very proud to host this year’s Gum Health Day activation in Baku, just before Perio Master Clinic,” he said. “Approximately 60 members of the public received check-ups and diagnoses, and we were able to talk with them about the importance of gum health and prevention.”
The initiative highlighted how professional gatherings can also serve as an opportunity to engage directly with the public. By taking oral-health messages outside the conference venue and into the community, organisers aimed to raise awareness of periodontal disease, which often progresses silently until it reaches an advanced stage.
For EFP president Professor Spyros Vassilopoulos, Gum Health Day represents much more than a single annual campaign: “Gum Health Day is not just a day in the year,” he said. “It is a continuous journey to increase public awareness and inform people about the importance of oral health. At the EFP, we truly believe that by empowering patients and giving them knowledge and information, we can help improve lives all over the world.”
