Call for submissions: EFP Digital Innovation Award 2026

Digital Innovation Award

The European Federation of Periodontology is pleased to announce the call for applications for the EFP Digital Innovation Award 2026, supported by Haleon. Launched in 2022, the award aims to stimulate and recognize digital innovation that can make a meaningful contribution to improving periodontal health in Europe and worldwide.

The award is open to members of EFP national societies and seeks digital solutions that address real-world needs in periodontology.

Applications may focus on one of three areas:

  • Innovation for the public, such as digital tools, apps or devices that support gum health, prevention and early intervention.
  • Innovation for oral health professionals, including technologies that assist with diagnosis, monitoring or the improvement of periodontal care.
  • Innovation for periodontal researchers, through novel digital methods that enhance the quality, efficiency or impact of research on gum health.

Applicants are encouraged to present their idea clearly and persuasively, following a start-up style approach. Submissions should identify an unmet need, describe the current market and competing solutions, and explain how the proposed innovation offers added value. A clear presentation of the idea, its feasibility, and a realistic business plan are essential components of the application. Where possible, candidates are encouraged to include a prototype or supporting scientific evidence.

Submissions will be evaluated by a panel of five adjudicators including representatives of the scientific affairs, postgraduate education and workshop committees, as well as a member of the EFP executive committee. Each application will be assessed on four criteria: the identified need, the market, the presentation of the idea and the business plan, with each criterion awarded up to five points.

The first prize is valued at €10,000, the second at €6,000 and the third at €4,000. All awardees will receive a certificate and a commemorative plate.

Candidates should submit their application, with all supporting materials, by email in PDF format to the EFP European co-ordinator, Monica Guinea: monica@efp.org, by Monday 31 August 2026.
