Categories:Communication, Institutional

On Gum Health Day, the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) was proud to participate in an important milestone for oral health, which took place in Athens, Greece: the official launch of the Cyprus Declaration on Oral Health in Europe.
The declaration, coordinated by the Alliance for a Cavity-Free Future (ACFF), calls for stronger recognition of oral health as an essential component of overall health and advocates for its integration into wider European health policies and healthcare systems. It also highlights the importance of collaboration between healthcare professionals, policymakers, researchers, educators, and public-health stakeholders to improve oral-health outcomes across Europe.
The EFP was represented at the event by Andreas Stavropoulos, EFP treasurer, who joined leading European and international experts and organizations in welcoming the initiative.
“For many years, the EFP has highlighted the close links between oral health and general health, as well as the importance of prevention and early intervention to improve overall wellbeing,” said Professor Stavropoulos. “We are therefore very pleased to celebrate initiatives such as the Cyprus Declaration, which help raise awareness of the importance of oral health, encourage collaboration across disciplines and organizations, and promote its integration into broader healthcare policies and systems across Europe (and beyond).”
The Cyprus Declaration aims to strengthen coordinated action on oral-health promotion and disease prevention, while helping place oral health higher on the European public-health agenda.
