EFP executive committee

The EFP executive committee (EC) met in Montenegro on 17 October 2026 to discuss strategic priorities, strengthen collaboration with partners and national societies, and shape the future development of the federation. Key outcomes included the establishment of two new structures to support scientific cooperation and international engagement, alongside the election of two new congress committee officers.

EFP scientific network platform

The EC agreed to establish the EFP scientific network platform, designed to strengthen scientific cooperation among EFP national societies and facilitate the development of multinational research initiatives.

The platform will provide a structured network for scientific representatives of national societies to exchange expertise, identify research priorities and explore opportunities for collaboration. It will also support the creation of international research consortia, applications for European research programmes and the translation of scientific evidence into clinical practice and public health initiatives.

Working alongside existing EFP committees, the platform aims to strengthen connections across the Federation and encourage the generation of new scientific evidence.

EFP international supporting committee

The executive committee also confirmed the creation of an EFP international supporting committee, reflecting the federation's commitment to strengthening its relationships and activities beyond Europe.

The new committee chaired by Alejandro Garcia Huerta (Mexico) will support engagement with international member societies, foster regional partnerships and promote educational and scientific collaboration worldwide.

Its priorities will include expanding access to EFP educational resources, encouraging the dissemination of clinical guidelines and consensus reports, and developing opportunities for collaboration between European and international institutions.

Operating under the authority of the EC, it will provide a coordinated framework for the EFP's growing international activities.

New congress committee officers elected

The meeting also saw the election of Marta Czesnikiewicz-Guzik (Poland) and Natasha Lioubavina (Netherlands) as new officers of the EFP congress committee.

They will contribute to the committee's work in supporting the development and continued success of EFP congresses and scientific events.

“These decisions reflect our ambition to build an even more connected, collaborative and internationally-engaged federation,” said Mia Rakić, EFP president. “By strengthening scientific cooperation among our national societies and developing closer relationships with our international partners, we are creating new pathway to advance periodontal science, education and oral health worldwide.”
