Monique Danser receives royal honour

Former EFP treasurer Monique Danser has been appointed Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau, a prestigious Royal Honour in the Netherlands acknowledging her outstanding contribution to education, research, leadership and professional service.

The honour was presented by Michel Rog, Mayor of Bloemendaal, on 2 October during the farewell symposium “Past - Present - Future”, held to mark Monique’s retirement and celebrate her distinguished career.

The award recognizes her significant contributions to undergraduate and postgraduate education and management at the Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA), as well as her longstanding commitment to professional leadership and governance, including her work with the Dutch Society of Periodontology (NVvP) and the EFP. The impact of her work on society, advocating to make oral care more accessible to everyone and her contribution to the education of dentists (also outside periodontology) for almost four decades were considered extraordinary.

Monique served as EFP treasurer for six years, from 2019 to 2025, completing two terms in the role. During this period, she played an important part in strengthening the federation’s financial sustainability, developing relationships with EFP partners, streamlining financial processes and supporting the EFP’s continued growth and professionalization. For this, she received the EFP Distinguished Service Award.

“I was completely surprised to receive this prestigious Royal Honour during my retirement symposium, with so many colleagues, friends and family present,” said Monique. “For me, this is the cherry on the cake of my career. Very few dentists in the Netherlands have received this honour before me, so I am really proud and grateful to all the people who made this possible throughout my career.”

The EFP warmly congratulates Monique on this distinguished and richly deserved recognition and thanks her once again for her many years of dedication and service to the federation.
