Dental photographers from Israel, Spain, and Turkey carried home the prizes in the second EFP photo contest, organised around EuroPerio10 at which participants were able to vote to choose the winners.
Javier Calatrava (Spanish Society of Periodontology and Osteointegration) won the prize in the gum health care category for his photograph named “Guiding the blade”.
Birtan Tolga Yilmaz from Turkey was the winner in the dental diseases category for his photograph “Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the healthiest of them all?”
And Elizabeth Shperberg-Krumer from Israel was awarded the prize in the extreme/lifestyle category for her photograph “Heart of palate”.
The three winners receive a free registration for one of two EFP events to be held next year: Perio Master Clinic 2023 in Antwerp, Belgium and International Perio Master Clinic 2023 in León, Mexico.
The contest was organised through the EFP’s 37 affiliated national societies of periodontology, which selected national winners in each category from the photographs submitted by their members.
A total of 44 national-winner photographs were then presented at EuroPerio10 at the Bella Center in Copenhagen, where attendees were able to vote for their preferred images in each of the three categories (with neither the names of the photographers nor those of their national societies displayed to encourage objectivity).
All national winners received an EFP photo-contest certificate, and their photographs may be published and credited in future EFP publications.
This was the second EFP photo competition, following the first EFP photo competition at EuroPerio9 in Amsterdam in 2018.
