EuroPerio11 Charity Run

The European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) has donated €15,000 to the WHO Foundation, with funds raised during the EuroPerio11 Charity Run held alongside the EuroPerio11 congress in Vienna last year.

The non-competitive five-kilometre run took place on 15 May 2025, starting and finishing at Messe Wien, the venue of EuroPerio11, and passing through the iconic Prater Park. Open to both runners and walkers, the event brought together oral health professionals from around the world in a spirit of community, wellbeing, and solidarity. Participants contributed through a symbolic €30 registration fee, with 100% of the net proceeds dedicated to supporting the WHO Foundation. Despite being scheduled early in the morning, starting at 6.30 am, the event attracted 500 participants.

The donation will help the WHO Foundation, whose work supports the World Health Organization (WHO), and broader health systems worldwide. The Foundation also plays a key role in connecting donors with initiatives that drive innovation in health systems and technologies, with the overarching goal of saving lives across the globe.

Commenting on the initiative, EFP treasurer Andreas Stavropoulos said: “It is a privilege for the EFP to support, once more, the important work of the WHO Foundation. We are delighted that the initiative could contribute, even in a small way, to advancing access to essential care and supporting communities in need. We believe in the value of collective action and hope to continue building on this momentum.”

Mr. Anil Soni, CEO of the WHO Foundation, in a letter addressed to the EFP states: “We are deeply touched by the commitment and solidarity behind this initiative. By coming together in this way, you have transformed a shared act of energy and goodwill into tangible support for global health. At a time when health needs around the world remain immense, gestures like yours carry real meaning.”

The EuroPerio11 Charity Run reflects the EFP’s broader commitment to supporting global health and fostering collaboration across the healthcare community, demonstrating how even small, collective actions can make a meaningful difference.

“The EFP thanks all the runners and walkers that took part in the run. Their generosity and enthusiasm made this initiative possible. A charity run is also planned during EuroPerio12 in Munich, 10-13 May 2028, so save the date!” announces Professor Stavropoulos.
