Almost 800 participants from 56 countries, including over 550 attending on-site, gathered in Baku, Azerbaijan, for the Perio Master Clinic 2026, held at the Baku Convention Centre on 6-7 March. Organized by the European Federation of Periodontology, the two-day event offered an intensive programme focused on the integration of periodontal and restorative excellence, bringing together leading clinicians, researchers, and dental professionals for a highly interactive learning experience.

The hybrid meeting combined lectures, clinical case discussions, and video-based sessions, providing practical insights into complex treatment scenarios and encouraging dialogue between speakers and participants.

Opening the congress, chair Professor Cavid Ahmedbeyli welcomed delegates to Baku and highlighted the importance of collaboration and continuous education in advancing periodontal care: “It is a great honour to welcome colleagues from across the world to Baku,” said Professor Ahmedbeyli. “Gatherings like this remind us that advancing science, education, and patient care remains a shared priority. Bringing professionals together to exchange knowledge and experience is essential for the progress of our field and ultimately for the benefit of our patients.”

The first day set an inspiring tone for the meeting, with sessions exploring the close relationship between periodontal and restorative treatment in achieving optimal functional and aesthetic outcomes.

After the opening ceremony, participants engaged in discussions on surgical and restorative strategies for smile enhancement, management of stage III and IV periodontitis, and treatment of multiple adjacent gingival recessions. A highlight of the programme was a video-based clinical session demonstrating the treatment of the anterior maxilla using surgical crown lengthening combined with minimally invasive restorative approaches.

Throughout the day, the interactive format encouraged questions, clinical reflection, and lively exchanges between speakers and attendees. Networking moments and spontaneous discussions outside the lecture hall further contributed to the collegial atmosphere that characterised the meeting.

Day 2: Tackling complex clinical challenges

The second day maintained the same dynamic momentum, focusing on the management of complex interdisciplinary cases.

Sessions addressed the challenges of treating the terminal dentition, approaches to bone defects in the anterior maxilla, and strategies for managing complex orthodontic–periodontal cases. The programme concluded with a compelling video clinical presentation on single-tooth replacement through tooth autotransplantation, illustrating innovative approaches to treatment planning and patient care.

Reflecting on the meeting, scientific chair, Professor Mariano Sanz emphasised the value of Perio Master Clinic’s practical format: “The programme is designed to translate scientific knowledge into clinical practice. Through case-based discussions and video sessions, clinicians can explore real treatment challenges and solutions that they can apply in their daily work. Just as importantly, the meeting highlights the value of interdisciplinary collaboration, bringing together different perspectives to achieve the best possible outcomes for patients.”

As Perio Master Clinic 2026 concluded, the EFP thanked the 13 exhibitors, as well as speakers, moderators, and participants , whose enthusiasm made the event a memorable gathering for the periodontal community.

Professor Anton Sculean, EFP secretary general, commented: “Perio Master Clinic has become an important meeting point for clinicians who want to deepen their expertise and stay at the forefront of periodontal and implant dentistry. By focusing on complex clinical scenarios and practical solutions, it reflects the EFP’s commitment to supporting high-level education and continuous professional development for oral health professionals worldwide.”
