Education

The EFP's work in education includes a set of curricular guidelines for undergraduate dental education, a three-year accredited programme for postgraduate education in periodontology, and some continuing education tools for reference and consultation of dental professionals all along their careers. Besides, this area is the home of the 'EFP Alumni' section.

Professor Spyros Vassilopoulos is the past president of the European Federation of Periodontology and a tenured assistant professor of periodontology and coordinator of the EFP-accredited postgraduate programme at National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. He is an executive board member of the Hellenic Society of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry since 2009 and is currently its president-elect. He also serves as chair of the EFP Communication & Engagement Committee since 2025. Professor Spyros Vassilopoulos was a member of the organizing committee at EuroPerio9, Amsterdam 2018 (chairman of the Ambassadors Committee), EuroPerio10, Copenhagen 2022 and EuroPerio11, Vienna 2025 (EFP president). He lectures internationally as an invited speaker focusing on periodontal plastic surgery and implantology. He maintains his private clinic in Athens limited in periodontal treatment and implant placement since 1998.
