Education

The EFP's work in education includes a set of curricular guidelines for undergraduate dental education, a three-year accredited programme for postgraduate education in periodontology, and some continuing education tools for reference and consultation of dental professionals all along their careers. Besides, this area is the home of the 'EFP Alumni' section.

Andreas Stavropoulos is Professor of Periodontology at Malmö University and Senior Consultant in Periodontology in Region Blekinge, Sweden, and Adjunct Professor at the Medical University of Vienna and at the University of Bern. He studied dentistry in Germany and Greece before specializing in periodontics and implant dentistry at Aarhus University, Denmark; wherefrom he earned a PhD (2002) and a dr. odont. degree (2011), focusing on regenerative periodontal therapy and dental implants. In 2013, he became Professor at Malmö University and he also served as Professor Ordinarius at the University of Geneva during 2020–2021. He has authored over 250 peer-reviewed publications and received several major research awards, including the IADR Distinguished Scientist Award in Periodontology (2025), the EAO Basic Research Award 2011, and the PRG/IADR Award in Regenerative Periodontal Medicine. He also serves on boards of leading international dental academic organizations and he is Senior Editor-in-Chief in Clin Exp Dent Res and in the board member of other journals.
