Recommended Transportation

Rio de Janeiro’s international airport is one of the largest and most important in Latin America. Upon arrival at Galeão International Airport (GIG), you will typically disembark via one of the jet bridges on the second floor. Your first stop is the immigration area, where — as a non-Brazilian passport holder — your passport, visa, and any other required documentation will be checked.

Galeão International Airport is located approximately 23 miles (32 km) from the Windsor Barra Hotel, where the event will take place.

Travel time can vary significantly depending on the day and time of travel. As a general rule, please allow approximately one hour to reach the hotel.

 

For your safety and convenience, we strongly recommend using only official transportation services upon arrival in Rio de Janeiro. The three recommended options are detailed below.

By Taxi

Please use only licensed airport taxis, which can be reserved at the official taxi counter located in the arrivals terminal. We strongly recommend booking your taxi directly at the accredited counter inside the terminal, rather than accepting offers from individuals approaching you in the queue.

By Uber

Uber operates throughout Rio de Janeiro and can be requested directly through the app. For added peace of mind — particularly when carrying luggage or traveling at night — we recommend using Uber Black. As with any ride-hailing service, please confirm the driver’s name, vehicle model, and license plate before entering the car.

The emergency number for police is 190, available 24 hours a day.

Internet

Most hotels and the congress venue are fully equipped with Wi-Fi. Local mobile providers offer affordable 4G and 5G data plans. SIM cards can be purchased directly upon arrival at Rio de Janeiro International Airport, where several mobile operator stores are available.

Currency

The currency in Brazil is the Brazilian Real (R$). Card payments are accepted at most shops, restaurants, and hotels, including Mastercard and Visa. ATMs are widely available throughout the city.

Time Zone

Rio de Janeiro operates on Brasília Time (UTC−3). Brazil does not observe daylight saving time, so the time remains consistent throughout the year.

Religion

Brazil is a secular country with freedom of religion guaranteed by law. It is known for its cultural and religious diversity, welcoming visitors of all backgrounds.

Healthcare

Rio de Janeiro offers excellent medical care, particularly through its private hospital network. Visitors are advised to have comprehensive travel insurance with medical coverage. Drink bottled or filtered water, use sunscreen and insect repellent, and bring sufficient prescription medication if needed. In case of a medical emergency, dial 192 (SAMU) for an ambulance.
