Providing high-value scientific knowledge about periodontology and implant dentistry to the dental community around the world is one of the EFP’s key aims.

The EFP Perio Sessions form a core component of the EFP Virtual, and are interactive webinars about important scientific issues in global periodontology and implant dentistry given by leading experts.

As well as EFP Perio Sessions, EFP Virtual comprises EFP Perio Talks, conversations between leading periodontal clinicians that take place as Instagram Live sessions on the federation’s profile. More video-streaming initiatives will follow soon.

Our research on Olympic and professional athletes shows high levels of caries, erosive tooth wear, periodontal diseases, and performance impacts. We have also shown that improvements in oral health and performance can be achieved. Ian Needleman will discuss both the causes and how to improve this situation. Speaker: Ian Needleman Moderator: Nicola West

Webinar Aims

  • To review oral health in elite sport relevant to managing athletes’ oral health and performance.
  • Learning outcomes: you should be able to describe the determinants of oral health in elite and recreational athletes, explain how oral health can have an impact on performance and plan a strategy to enhance oral health in athletes to support both their health and their performance.

EFP Perio Sessions

The EFP launched in April 2020 the EFP Perio Sessions as part of the initiatives to support its members and the dental community during the unprecedented situation created by the COVID-19 pandemic. These webinars share advanced scientific knowledge with periodontists, dentists, researchers, and other dental professionals interested in periodontology and implant dentistry, and are free of charge during the lockdown period.
